HOW TO ADD WINE TAPS TO YOUR TASTING ROOM

As of January 2022, consumers can refill wine bottles at participating tasting rooms in California! With a glass bottle recyclability rate of only 39%, we are excited about this new initiative to help reduce waste and contribute to a circular economy.

Adding this sustainable option to your tasting room is easy. There are many draft systems for wine on tap to choose from and you can pick the right one based on your budget, space, and wine selection.  Best of all, every option is compatible with Free Flow’s reusable steel kegs!

MOBILE DISPENSE OPTIONS

BAR-TOP DISPENSE

This unit can go on any countertop, tabletop, or bar. No refrigeration or installation is required. All you need is a standard electrical outlet to cool down the glycol tubing that will chill the wine when it is poured. Free Flow Wines offers a lease to own option and they start at $999. You can inquire about it here.

MOBILE KEGERATOR

Kegerator units have 2-8 taps and come in a variety of designs. The refrigeration unit chills the kegs and some have dual-zone cooling for your red and white wines.

NON-ELECTRIC UNITS

Similar to a jockey box, these units do not require electricity and, instead, chill wines as they pass through a cooling coil embedded in ice.

CUSTOM MOBILE UNITS

These units can be custom-made to fit your tasting room aesthetic. They can use any type of cooling system depending on your needs. These companies offer custom builds.

DIRECT DRAW

A direct draw setup places the taps immediately above the refrigerator where the kegs are located.

LONG DRAW

Long Draw draft systems store the tapped kegs away from the taps, typically, in another room. The wine flows from the keg through long, temperature-controlled lines to the taps.

SELF POUR

Depending on the system, customers can use a key card, mobile app, foot pedal, or no-touch sensor to serve themselves. You program how many ounces each pour is per glass, and how many glasses each customer can consume. No one will be over-poured or overserved.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Easy to Maintain!

Cleaning

Wine lines only require a cleaning every three months or after a product replacement.

Spoilage

Steel kegs guarantee no oxygen or light will touch your wine. The durability of steel will prevent any accidental wine loss due to package breakage. Your wine will stay safe, fresh, and delish while it's in the keg and connected to a tap!

Storage

Wine in steel kegs should be stored in the same conditions as wine in bottles: in a cool, temperate space. Stainless steel kegs are 9.5” in diameter and easily stackable, so you can conserve storage space when transitioning to kegs for your by-the-glass wine program.

Zero Waste

Free Flow Kegs are 100% reusable, which means there is nothing to recycle or throw away - making it a truly zero-waste program.

KEGGING PROGRAMS

Full Service - You ship us the wine and we keg, store, fulfill to distributors, track the kegs, and coordinate reverse logistics back to our facility. We also cover COLA compliance and the printing of labels.

Offsite - We send you cleaned, nitrogen purged kegs whenever you need them. Your winery would be responsible for compliance and the printing of the TTB approved keg collar labels.
